Looe Key Marine Sanctuary: Snorkeling and Grouper 04/11/2019

Thursday was another beautiful day with rare calm winds so we went back to Looe Key Marine Sanctuary. We don’t get very many mild days when the ocean is flat, so we take full advantage when we can. This time Heidi and Greg joined us for the trip out to the reef. We also invited our neighbors, Bill and Gail. They wanted to follow us out in their boat since they are not as familiar with the waters here.

On this trip we were pleasantly surprised by not one but two large groupers hanging under our boat. Randy was much more comfortable getting videos of these large groupers this time. No more keeping the motor and swim ladder between him and the fish! The yellowtail snappers were as abundant as before. There were lots of Sergeant Majors, a few sharks and a cuda. Randy was told he should take off his bracelet as the cuda love shiny things. So far he is still wearing it!

On the way back in we stopped at Newfound Harbor but were not lucky enough to find any turtles like when Kat was here. Before heading to VO, we showed Bill how to navigate around Little Palm, Picnic Island and the Boy Scout camp. We don’t have a lot of time left here this season, so this might be our last trip to the reef.

Heading out for some snorkeling at Looe Key. The weather was cooperating to give us calm seas.
