On our way to the Liard Hot Springs Lodge/Campground we stopped at Tetsa River Services for one of their cinnamon rolls. This was another stop for the Caravan photo scavenger contest. We traveled over Summit Pass which is the highest point on the Alaska Highway at 4,250 feet. I was surprised that this would be the highest point, since we were at the lowest point the previous day.
We arrived at the hot springs in time to spend some time in the Liard Hot Springs before a Caravan supplied dinner of walking tacos and peanut butter bars for dessert. The Liard Hot Springs are the second largest hot springs in Canada and are in the Liard River Hot Springs Provincial Park. We were limited to specific areas of the hot springs as the Hanging Garden Trail was closed after July 18, due to bear activity. After relaxing in the hot springs, we had a travel meeting when 4 wood bison decided to visit the campground. We were told they have bison bed down in the campground quite often. And they don’t have to pay anything! No cell service or TV in this area.
