December in The Keys 12/31/2019

This year has been considerably cooler and wetter in the Keys than last year. However, it is still warmer and dryer than home so still loving it! We are watching the Ravens game and looking at all of the rain in Baltimore. This is the second home game that it has been pouring down rain during the game, while we are in sunshine! I will take the warmer weather! Even if I missed being with family over the holidays.

I really enjoyed the Conch Train Holiday Lights tour that we took with Venture Out. VO presold tickets for the event which resulted in 3 full trains. It was a lot of fun. Randy had asked about partying on the train and was told that you cannot bring anything to drink. I think he was the only one that was not drinking! Except I don’t drink either. Almost everyone had brought a flask or a large cup with some type of libation. The driver took us all around Key West to look at Christmas lights. We even went down by the harbor on some of the very narrow streets. Most of the light displays were awesome. Some of ther homes were even making snow! My favorite displays were the classy, traditional decorations at The Curry Mansion and the blue and white lights with snow at the home on Laird Street. I heard the Mayor’s houses was great too but I am not sure which one it was.

The weather did clear up enough that we made it out to some of our favorite places. We visited Tarpon Belly Key and we even made a quick trip out to Looe Key. Peter and Paulla drove their boat out to join us, but the swells were too big for anyone to stay very long.

A nice stop at Tarpon Belly Key.

Randy snorkeling Looe Key. It was a rough day so we did not stay very long.
Neighbors went with us out to Looe Key.
There are always lots of pelicans hanging around.
